New radio system for fire and rescue service goes on roadshow
A fire appliance fitted out with a demonstration version of the new interoperable communications system for England's fire and rescue service visits the North East next week on its tour of fire stations around the country.
The new wide-area radio communications system is part of the Government's investment in the fire and rescue service to ensure that it is equipped to meet the challenges of today's world.
The equipment goes on show at the Tyne and Wear Training Centre at Barmston Mere, Washington on Thursday and Friday June 7 and 8 and at Durham and Darlington Fire Service HQ, Framwellgate Moor from Monday 11 to Wednesday June 13.
Funded by Communities and Local Government the £350 million project will provide a resilient voice communications system, part of the Firelink project for the fire and rescue service.
Firelink, together with the FiReControl project which will provide nine networked regional control centres, will improve communications between crew and control and at command level between FRS, police and ambulance services. The Firelink supplier is Airwave Safety Communications Limited.
